Course Descriptions
1. Introduction to Modeling
This one-day course will introduce participants to an overview of travel demand modeling with an emphasis on typical practices in Florida. An overview of the four steps will be given, along with an introduction to advanced concepts such as tour-based/activity-based models. The Florida Standard Urban Transportation Model Structure (FSUTMS) will be described and a brief historical context given for its development. Examples of how regional models are used for policy studies will be presented, along with comparisons of Florida's regional models. Supporting FDOT planning staff will be introduced to assist those with further questions and needs. This class will be delivered in lecture format without hands-on computer exercises, making it ideal for managers and other non-modelers.

2. Introduction to R Programming
This one-day course will introduce participants to concepts of R, a programming language used in the travel demand modeling community for statistical data analysis. The course will provide initial guidance to setting up an environment in R, reading and writing files, and accessing, manipulating, analyzing, and presenting data. The course will present popular packages that are used in the context of FreightSIM, the Florida Statewide Freight Model. At the end of this course participants can expect to know how to work in R, set up a project, import and export data, create graphs, and be able to get started with reading the FreightSIM R code. Participants will also be given additional resources that can be used as material for self-learning. Prior to the R programming class, students will be sent software to load onto their own laptops, which they will bring to the class.

CTPP Town Hall Meeting: Elimination of Tables in Special Tabulation

AASHTO needs your input for the elimination of tables in the CTPP. They have employed a methodology to suggest tables for elimination, however, a key feature of the methodology (google analytics for number of times a data table is accessed at any geography) does not take into account any users who have accessed the data by any means other than through the software. All "power users" who have downloaded data by FTP take note. Your use is not captured, and your input is necessary!

CTPP is hosting a series of "town hall" meetings to present findings and get your input and feedback.

Please consider attending one:

Monday, November 9 at 10:00 am EST
Tuesday, November 10 at 1:00 pm EST, or
Thursday, November 12 at Noon EST

By logging into: https://connectdot.connectsolutions.com/ctpp_town_hall/ and dialing: 1-888-585-9008 passcode/room: 433-083-926

The same information will be presented at all three meetings, so you need only attend one. Registration is not required, but space is limited. If you would like the materials and methodology to review ahead, please email Penelope Weinberger at .
