GOAA South Airport Complex & Multimodal Connections
The session consisted of presentations focusing on the GOAA South Airport Terminal Complex and the multimodal accommodations that have been made for SunRail, Virgin Trains, and LYNX to connect to the terminal. The event speakers and panelists are listed below - Davin Ruohomaki, Senior Director Planning, Engineering and Construction, Greater Orlando Aviation Authority; Michelle DeLora, General Consulting Team, Greater Orlando Aviation Authority; Michael Cegelis, Executive VP of Infrastructure Development, Virgin Trains; and Tiffany Homler Hawkins, Chief Administrative Officer at LYNX.
The presentations were followed by a panel discussion facilitated by Judy Pizzo, FDOT Project Manager. The event began with a welcome address by the CEO of GOAA, Stan Thornton, who provided a history of the master planning efforts undertaken at GOAA in the last 30 years and the growth projections for the next 50 years. Davin Ruohomaki explained the significance of the first phase of the South Airport complex as well as the masterplanning that has taken place for future modes of transportation to come together in one complex, on airport property and walkable to the airline terminal. Michelle DeLora explained the sustainability features that have been incorporated into the building design that has earned the facility the designation of the first LEED 4 building in the State of Florida. Mike Cegelis from Virgin Trains provided a history of the Brightline rail service that currently operates from West Palm Beach to Miami and the current construction work underway to connect to Orlando and Cocoa Beach and the future connection to Tampa.
